Based closely on the NASCAR race engine, the street Boss 429 engine was detuned and dressed with a fan, belts, and an emissions system. Because the heads didn’t include heat passages, a unique heat tube delivered warm air from the passenger-side exhaust manifold to the intake to pre-heat the carburetor to assist cold-start. Assembled at Brighton

Because the various Kar Kraft buildings were not capable of handling the final assembly of over five hundred Mustangs, a 60,000 square-foot building was leased at 800 Whitney Street in Brighton, forty miles west of Dearborn. Formerly used by recreational vehicle manufacturer Vagabond Trailer Company, the long building could accommodate a vehicle assembly line. The eleven-acre property also provided the space required for staging and storing cars. Kar Kraft occupied the building in November 1968.
